People need help while kicking
off any addiction and smoking is no exception. Smoking is a
highly addictive habit that can turn into a problem if you
don’t quit early on. The good thing now though is that you have
a lot of help to
quit smoking and make an effort to improve your help and
also make the people who care for you a lot
happier.
Quitting can be
really hard and will take its toll on you. You need to
prepare yourself once you decide to quit and not give in
to your cravings. Your body will fight back hard because
of the detox effect, but don’t succumb to it. As long as
you are strong willed and dedicated, quitting will not be
hard and something that you can master eventually with
minimal effort.
The decision to quit
is probably the hardest thing. So once you are over that,
you have won half the battle. Now, all that is left is
for you to actually give up the habit and see it through
the end.
The first two weeks
will be the hardest, but make sure you are busy and do
not have the time to think about lighting up a cigarette.
Go on a vacation with your family or friends and don’t
carry the lighter or the matches with you. Make sure you
go somewhere such that the cigarettes you like are hard
to find and you need to think twice about smoking. If you
don’t find the brand you are looking for, then smoking
another brand may be the only resolve. Since habitual
smokers dislike changing brands, they will eventually
give up smoking altogether.
Never think that you
are alone when you are quitting; there is always help to quit
smoking. Always bank on the support of your close
friends and family. If you feel that you cannot do this
alone, there are also support groups whose aim to get you
to quit smoking. Enroll on one of these groups and go
often to the meetings. Remember that seek help if you
need to; don’t hesitate about it. Considering the
different mediums out there, you are bound to find help
in one place or another.
Most of these groups
are made up of individuals like yourself who are finding
it hard to break the habit. It has been proven
scientifically that group efforts in giving up a habit
are more effective than doing it all alone. If you feel
groups are not for you, there are alternate options like
reading self help books. These self help books are very
useful even if you are too busy to dedicate time to quit.
In the end, remember that there are a number of people
and groups out there that will help to quit
smoking; you are not alone.
